One of the great weaknesses in the contemporary work-world is a shortage of critical thinking skills and an appreciation of how the insights of the great philosophers can enhance the daily lives of regular people. Philosophers are often derided for having their heads in the clouds, i practiced some of the things i learnt from them, and achieved good results. I prefer their thoughts over general public opinion. I believe corporates would be doing their employees a much greater service by offering ‘Philosophy Clubs’ rather than free donuts and free coffee.

Personally i feel the biggest advantage of people who have explored Humanities, it that it allows them see the bigger – and often more complex – picture. People trained in the humanities have learned to play with big concepts, and apply new ways of thinking to difficult problems that can’t be analyzed in conventional ways. By only using mathematical and engineering minds to solve problems we limit the potential of the human society as a whole. Mathematics is valid and a true arena, however so many problems remain unsolved. We have to find a new way to look at things.

A ‘Modern Secular Education’ and ‘Contemporary Corporate Practices’ tend to emphasize that through funding and training people, one can improve their skills. However they seem to forget that it’s the ‘Drive and Hunger to Learn’ that makes a person excel. Knowledge is not necessarily the fruit of intellectual effort. What you do after gaining knowledge also matters? Once you have gained the knowledge, do you boast puff up your chest and take pride in your knowledge? Or rather humble yourself, and use that knowledge to actually do something beneficial for yourself, society, the company you work for, or society at large?
What you do with knowledge and power ultimately depends on the state of your heart, not the state of your mind.
